I turn out to be a C type of manager. I am conscientious, according to the graph, and that's fine. I do believe that I am the type to think things through and wait until things are well under my control before I make moves. I am content with the findings, because I personally couldn't be happy with reshaping an entire environment to my liking. Plus, people who are the dominant type are usually misunderstood. Their management style comes off as arrogant or possessive, and their bottom line (right or wrong) is sometimes missed.
For the survival exercise, I think I would like people like myself stuck with me. Unless there is a dominant person who I know that they know what they're talking about, a dominant person will get my group dead.

Since we were on a time constraint with the survival exercise, don't you think it would be beneficial to have a dominant person in your group to take control of the situation. While I agree that a "C" type of leader is beneficial to the group by thinking analytically, I think a group of entire "C" leaders will be detrimental because of the fact that they need someone who will make quick decisions for them.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI agree, I do think most dominant people are misunderstood, however I don't think all dominant people are misunderstood. I do believe you can have dominant managerial skill sets and still get along fine with your group. Or the people in your group doesn't have to not like you because they see you as an a-hole. In some organizations having dominant skills are celebrated. I don't think it's bad to have a few dominant skills, everyhting in moderation...
doesnt the world need more of us (C's)? in reference to the stranded situation, even though i am a bit prideful, i think a group of just C's would be a bit detrimental. in my opinion an ideal group would be one of each (D, I, S, C,). that way one can make the right decision, another can sell that decision, the other can support that decision while we analyze the hell out of that decision!
ReplyDeleteThrough working in a group with you for more than one exercise this semester, I do agree that you're a conscientious type person. In the egg dropping exercise, you kept an open mind when listening to our group members ideas and then you contributed your own constructive feedback on what was said. I am also a C-type manager and I think we work well together even though you didnt support my jello-filled watch straps :P.
